Matter Mayhem is a materials lab in a box. Your child mixes, squishes and stretches real stuff — a stress ball, slime, a bouncy ball — then uses what they learned to solve a mystery. Three builds, then one big challenge.

What your child will learn

What's in the box

Everything your child needs, except a few things from the kitchen.

  • 5 balloons and a small funnel
  • Cornstarch
  • Clear glue and linker solution
  • 2 measuring cups with lids
  • 6 labeled vials and a bottle of vinegar
  • Small cups, craft sticks and zipper bags
  • A table cover and a ruler
  • Your workbook

You'll also need a few things from home — paper towels, a permanent marker, and water.

Built on real standards

This kit is built on the Next Generation Science Standards. Here are its main targets for grades 3–5.

The reading is much simpler than that. So the kit also works well with 5th and 6th graders who want real science without a lot of text.
